We turn dreamers into doers

Over thousands of conversations with entrepreneurs, we kept hearing the same question: “Is this a Thing?”. These entrepreneurs had excitement, but they also had real concerns: is this a good idea? should I quit my job for this? pitch it to my boss? stake my career on it? invest my savings in it? Making the decision to launch a new business is a big one — whether you decide to jump all in or to shelf the idea to make room for other things, we want to empower you to make that choice with confidence. That’s why we created this process — field tested with hundreds of entrepreneurs, companies, and investors — that can help anyone answer the question we all have about our new ideas: “Is this a Thing?”

About our Founder

I’m a serial entrepreneur who loves building products and services for entrepreneurs, business owners, and hustlers of all stripes.

I started my first business in a Palo Alto garage (no kidding!), building a crowdfunding platform that helped small businesses raise capital from their communities. After a crazy year in Washington that began with testifying for Congress (twice!) and culminated with sitting in the Rose Garden watching the JOBs Act be signed into law, I was positive that supporting entrepreneurs was my mission. I got to bring that mission to life at Etsy, Google’s Sidewalk Labs, a Venture Capital Firm, and another start-up I launched to help teens build their first business. I now teach entrepreneurship at NYU’s Stern School of Business.

We each only have the time to act on a finite number of our ideas in one lifetime – I started Is this a Thing? to help anyone pick the ideas that are worth their time and leap into those with passion and conviction.
